On 2nd November 2026, the Securities Commission of Papua New Guinea (SCPNG) announced the passing of the Capital Markets Commission Act 2026 by Parliament on the 15th of October 2026. The passing of the legislation marked a major reform in the capital markets in Papua New Guinea.

The legislation is intended to strengthen regulatory powers of the Commission to enhance investor protection, improve market integrity which will give much confidence to licensed entities, market participants, investors and the general public. Importantly, once the legislation becomes operational as law, it will repeal the Securities Commission Act 2015 and rebrand the regulator as the Capital Markets Commission (CMC) of Papua New Guinea.

The rebranded statutory regulator with an experienced Board will have stronger regulatory powers to protect the investors in the capital market space as well as the public.
